Xander qualified from the University of Manchester in 2012. He moved to the North East to undertake a two year training programme at Newcastle Dental Hospital working working the specialities of Paediatrics, Oral Surgery and Restorative Dentistry. On completion of this in 2014, he was awarded the Faculty of General Dental Practitioners prize for his completed portfolio. He spent the next 12 months working at Sunderland Royal Hospital with the Maxillofacial team dealing with a wide variety or surgical cases, ranging from facial trauma to oral cancers.

 

He became a member of the Faculty of Dental Surgeons (MFDS) at the Royal College in Edinburgh in 2014, and in 2021 became one of only a handful of dentists in the UK to have passed the Membership in Advanced General Dental Surgery (MAGDS). This high level qualification offered by the Royal College of Surgeons sets the standards for excellence in primary care dentistry. 

 

Xander has also completed a Postgraduate Masters Degree in Endodontics (MSc Endo) which is the branch of dentistry specifically involved in both maintaining the health of the nerve inside your tooth, and treating it when it becomes diseased causing you to have toothache or a dental abscess. He takes referrals for these types of treatment from within the practice as well as seeing complex cases on referral from dentists around the north east. 

 

He is currently working towards a further qualification in Advanced Restorative Dentistry with the globally renowned Tipton Training Academy. He has satisfied the requirements for the Operative Dentistry and Restorative Dentistry parts of the course, receiving an award for “Best Dentist” in the latter module. He hopes to complete all the outstanding course requirements this year 

 

When he isn’t sitting exams or looking after patients, Xander enjoys spending time with his wife Helen and three children; Rory, Imogen and Lyra. He can frequently be found either on the rugby pitch where he coaches Rory, camping up the Northumberland coast line or talking endlessly about his flock of beautiful pedigree show chickens!
